Day 13

Today was pretty much our last day of science and outside activities. We got to wake up a little later than usual since we were going to finish some of our tests for our water samples right away in the morning after breakfast. We all stained our last slides and left them to dry, after that we had a quick lunch and went down the road to the Walla Walla River Hatchery. Here Thomas Tallbull who is the hatchery manager gave us a tour of the facility, and he showed us all of the different parts where the fish were kept. They were little ones and some full-grown adults. He told us about how some get diseases and how they try to treat them, but it doesn’t always work, but they do their best so that most of them have a chance once they’re released into the wild. It was really cool to see, and it was so crazy how high tech the facility was; I have never seen anything like it.

After seeing the fish hatchery, we came back and finished our final Gram stains, we let those dry and we headed straight to The Umatilla Tribal Agency so that we could fill in all of our data that we collected onto an excel sheet. We’re going to reference the excel sheet when we make our poster so that we are able to back up our final conclusions on what we think the bacteria we inoculated is. Dr. Schuster helped us check our samples under the microscope and advised us on what to look for to distinguish them. We went most of the day there and after that we went to go shower and now were just finishing up our blogs and well head back to make dinner one last time and that’ll be it. Tomorrow we will pack up, do inventory and head home. I’m so excited to go home!! I loved coming on this trip, but two weeks is kind of a long time. I’m pretty tan and fullllllll of mosquito bites but I got to meet some really cool people with some pretty interesting jobs. I hope I can find myself in a job that I am passionate about in the future just like everyone whom we got to meet with over the course of the past two weeks. Day 13 complete!

I’m so excited I heard Monet say she’s making mango sticky rice!!!!!
